Acrocanthosaurus released in Texas

Glen Rose is called the “Dinosaur Capitol of Texas” for a reason. In prehistoric times, the area was a hot bed of dinosaur activity. Actual dinosaur footprints from the ancient past are still visible in the Paluxy river running through the town. Currently, the area is still alive with dinosaurs at Dinosaur World, an outdoor dinosaur museum with over 100 life size dinosaurs.

Dinosaur World opened in March of 2008 with over 100 life size dinosaurs set in an outdoor dinosaur museum in the lush Texas hill country. In addition to the dinosaurs, other exhibits include a Fossil Dig, where visitors can sift though sand in search of authentic fossils to take home, an indoor Prehistoric Museum with fossils and replica skeletons, picnic areas, a huge 5,000 square foot giftshop of everything dinosaur and more.

Dinosaur World is again taking visitors on a journey into the past with the release of a life size forty foot Acrocanthosaurus. Texans hold a particular fondness for this dinosaurs, not just because of its larger than life size, but also because this is the giant carnivore whose tracks can be found on the banks of the Paluxy just a few feet up the road in Dinosaur Valley State Park.

“He’s impressive. That’s for sure,” said Dinosaur World’s Marketing Director Nicole Randall. “It was our plan from the beginning to bring him home. You will understand why it took a bit longer to get him here when you see him. It’s not something you forget. He’s quite extraordinary.” Acrocanthosaurus will now be the first of the over 100 dinosaurs to greet visitors as they begin their dinosaur walk.
