rainy day activities

I just bought a dinosaur bone excavation kit from our giftshop for my 4 year old to do at home this weekend while it's raining. He can be a paleontologist in his very own home this weekend. It's educational and fun. Check out our online giftshop for some other ideas or visit one of our giftshops (http://www.dinoworld.net/dinoshop.htm). We're open rain or shine, but this is a good idea to pick up just for a rainy day!

The ammonite in our Fossil Dig

One of the more popular items in our Fossil Dig is an ammonite. This fossil was once an animal that swam in shallow marine seas. They are mollusks with soft bodies, .ike octopus and squid, that also had tentacles that surrounded beak like jaws. The closest living relative is a chambered nautilus. The ammonite's ability to swim was due to the unique construction of its shell that contains many chambers filled with air which provides buoyancy so it could float. They were very plentiful in their day.
